Maroon and Gold Tie for Third in Colleton River Collegiate

BLUFFTON, S.C. - The University of Minnesota men's golf team tied for third place with Memphis during the Colleton River Collegiate at the Colleton River Club Monday.

The Golden Gophers finished with an overall score of 4-under-par, including a final-round score of 3-over-par (291). This is the first time the team has placed in the top three of a tournament since the Gopher Invitational Sept. 8-9, 2024, where they finished second with a team score of 10-over-par. Kentucky placed first in the team competition with a score of 11-under-par. Individually, Diego Do Patrocinio Lourenco of Memphis carded the best mark of 10-under-par (206) among the field.

Notable Performances: 
Sophomore Chun-Ta Wu collected the best team score of 5-under-par (211), matching his season-best, finish-to-par score. He finished even (72) in the final round, tying him for a new career-best fifth place among all golfers. He collected a team-best 14 birdies throughout the event.

Sophomore Jack Crousore tied for 10th place with a score of 2-under-par (214), marking the second tournament he has finished in the top 10 this season. His two birdies during the final round added to this total of 13 for the two-day event.

Freshman Joe Honsa registered a score of 2-over-par (218), shooting even (72) in the final round with four birdies. He finished with a total of nine birdies throughout the tournament, ending in a tie for 33rd.

Senior Cormac Sharpe penciled a score of 4-over-par (220), collecting two of his seven birdies during the final 18 holes. His third-round score of 1-over-par (73) helped him tie for 44th place.

Senior Jack Wetzel shot 6-over-par (78) during the final round Monday, ending with a score of 8-over-par (224). He gathered seven birdies, helping him finish tied for 64th place.

Freshman Torger Ohe concluded the tournament with a season-best, score of 6-under-par (66), tallying six birdies and zero bogeys. He finished with an overall score of 8-over-par (224) as an individual.

Up Next:
The Gophers travel to St. Simons Island, Ga., to compete in The Johnnie-O on Mar. 9-10. The tournament will be held at the Sea Island Resort and hosted by Rutgers.
