Wu’s First-Place Finish Leads Minnesota to Top Three in St. Simons Island

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Sophomore Chun-Ta Wu tied for first place in The Johnnie-O Tuesday, helping Minnesota move into a tie for third place for the second-consecutive tournament.
The Golden Gophers finished with a team score of 39-under-par (825), marking the third-lowest score through 54 holes since 1994-95. This is the first time the team has placed in the top three in back-to-back tournaments since 2021 during the Boilermaker Invitational (Apr. 10-11, 2021) and the Git R Done Husker Invitational (Apr. 17-18, 2021).
Georgia Southern and Florida Gulf Coast tied for first in the team competition with a score of 42-under-par. Individually, Wu and Rudy Sautron of Nebraska carded the best mark of 18-under-par (198) among the field.
Notable Performances:
Wu collected a final-round score of 5-under-par (67) with six birdies, adding to his total of 23 throughout the two-day event. This is his first tournament to finish under par during all three rounds. His new career-best score of 18-under-par (198) ties the lowest by a Gopher since 1994-95, matching Ben Warian's mark during the High Meadows Intercollegiate (Apr. 15-16, 2024). He becomes the first Gopher to win a tournament since Warian's High Meadows Intercollegiate performance.
Freshman Torger Ohe carded a career-best score of 9-under-par (207), tallying 14 birdies. He shot 4-under-par (68) during the final round, helping him tie for 12th place overall.
Senior Cormac Sharpe finished the tournament with a third-round score of 1-under-par (71), registering a season-low score of 6-under-par (210). He tied for 27th place, picking up 12 birdies along the way.
Freshman Joe Honsa matched his career-best score of 5-under-par (211), penciling a third-round score of 3-under-par (69). He gathered six of his 13 birdies during the final round, tying him for 33rd place for the third-straight tournament.
Senior Jack Wetzel shot even (72), including a third-round score of 1-over-par (73). He recorded 12 birdies, tying for 54th among all golfers.
