Gophers Post Eight Personal Bests on Day One of First Chance Meet

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota swimming programs completed the opening day of action at the First Chance Meet in the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center this afternoon, posting eight new personal bests throughout the first 14 events.

 

The First Chance Meet, with no team scores or diving events, offers swimmers to improve their overall times and potentially record NCAA qualifying times heading into the championship season.

 

Ava Yablonski tallied a personal best in the first event of the afternoon, tallying a 4:57.90 to top the charts in the women's 500 free.

 

Alberto Hernandez followed up the performance with a personal best of his own, posting a 4:19.46 and winning the men's 500 free.

 

Jack Hackler and Tyler Hansen each posted new personal records in the men's 100 breaststroke, tallying times of 54.78 and 55.42 respectively.

 

Kamdyn Periat and Rachel Conley each posted personal bests to finish second and third in the women's 50 free, tallying times of 22.85 and 22.99 respectively.

 

Ryan Slonac tallied her personal best in the men's 50 free, reaching a time of 20.34 and finishing second in the event.

 

Finnly Jollands recorded a personal record of 2:02.44 in the women's 200 IM, finishing off the night for the Gophers in the pool.

 

Day two of the First Chance Meet is set to start tomorrow morning from Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. All the action is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 AM.
