Gophers Close Out Day Two Action at First Chance Meet

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota swimming program closed out the second day of action at the First Chance Meet in the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, posting to more personal bests to end the meet.
The First Chance Meet, with no team scores or diving events, offers swimmers to improve their overall times and potentially record NCAA qualifying times heading into the championship season.
Ryan Slonac and Jaden Heinlein got the action started for the Gophers this morning, tallying a one two finish in the men's 400 IM with times of 3:53.45 and 4:00.30 respectively.
Mina Kaljevic and Ava Goodno topped the charts for Minnesota in the women's 100 free, tallying times of 49.29 and 52.17 respectively.
Kamdyn Periat posted a personal best in the women's 200 back, tallying a time of 1:58.96 to win the event.
Mira Keller took the win in the women's 100 fly, posting a time of 55.27. Omar Abdelwahab followed it up with a second place finish in the men's 100 fly, tallying a time of 50.54.
Anja Kaljevic, Paige Moreen, and Faith Johnson collected a 1-2-3 finish in the women's 200 free. Moreen collected a personal best for herself, tallying a time of 1:51.21.
Freshman duo Ethan Schutten and Jackson Scheiber earned the 1-2 finish in the men's 100 free, tallying times of 1:38.55 and 1:40.96.
Jack Ballard closed out the competition for the Gophers in the men's 200 breaststroke, topping the heat sheet with a time of 2:00.77.
Minnesota now sets their eyes on championship season with the 2026 Big Ten Championships set as their next competition. The Gophers are set to host the Women's Big Ten Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, with all the action beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
