No. 53 Minnesota Heads to Kansas, Kansas State

MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 53-ranked University of Minnesota tennis team continues nonconference play this weekend with matches against Kansas and Kansas State.
 
No. 53 Minnesota travels to Lawrence, Kan., to face Kansas (3-4) at 5 p.m. CT Friday, Feb. 20, before playing Kansas State (1-3) at noon CT Sunday, Feb. 22, in Manhattan, Kan.
 
The Season So Far
The Gophers opened the season with two doubleheaders, winning all four matches. Minnesota began the year with home victories over Iowa State and North Dakota before sweeping a road doubleheader in DeKalb, Illinois, with wins over Western Michigan and Wyoming.

Minnesota earned road wins over Wyoming, 6-1, and Colorado State, 4-3, to remain unbeaten. In their most recent matches, the Gophers fell to Alabama and Colorado before rebounding with a 6-1 win over Drake.
 
Scouting Kansas
Minnesota and Kansas have met 10 times in program history, with the Gophers winning the most recent meeting 7-2 on March 12, 2000. Kansas has dropped four straight matches after opening the season 3-0. The Jayhawks are led by Kyoko Kubo, who is ranked No. 36 in ITA singles and No. 72 in doubles with partner Helke Janse Van Vuuren.
 
Scouting Kansas State
Minnesota and Kansas State have met twice in program history. The Gophers also faced the Wildcats at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and the ITA Central Regional Championships this fall. Kansas State is 1-3 on the season, including a 4-2 win over Tulsa. The Wildcats are led by sisters Martaa Chogsomjav and Maragloo Chogsomjav, who are ranked No. 55 in ITA doubles. Maragloo Chogsomjav was also named ITA Central Region Most Improved Player and earned Big 12 second-team honors last season.
 
Rising the Ranks
The Gophers are ranked No. 53 in this week's ITA Top 75 tennis rankings, marking the second-highest ranking during head coach Lois Arteberry's tenure. Minnesota's highest ranking under Arteberry came Feb. 27, 2025, when the Gophers were No. 52.
 
Amazing Ante
Junior Jeselle Ante was named to the 2026 Big Ten women's tennis Players to Watch list, the conference announced Jan. 5. She has opened the spring season 7-1 in singles and 5-3 in doubles, leading the team with 16 wins. Ante plays at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.
