Two Gophers made the CSC Academic All-District Team

MINNEAPOLIS - Aiva Schmitz and Mia Liepert of the University of Minnesota tennis team have earned a spot on the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team, announced earlier this week.

The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Women's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

In order to be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, recipients must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition and hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher
Earning her second career CSC Academic All-District honor, senior Aiva Schmitz has truly shown what it means to represent the Maroon and Gold over her four years. Schmitz was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 28 and climbed to No. 117 in the ITA singles rankings on Feb. 4. Primarily competing at the No. 1, 2, and 3 singles positions, she earned one of the biggest wins of her season with an upset over No. 45 Mari Paz Vilar of Iowa State. Schmitz also delivered a memorable senior day moment, clinching Minnesota's match against No. 42 Nebraska to secure a 4-2 Gophers victory.

Receiving her second career CSC Academic All-District honor, junior Mia Liepert continued to be a key contributor for the Maroon and Gold in both singles and doubles play. Liepert reached the 50-career singles win milestone with a victory over South Dakota and highlighted her season with an upset over Big Ten Freshman of the Year Mayu Crossley of UCLA on March 8. Primarily competing at the No. 2, 3, and 4 singles positions, she earned notable wins against UCLA, Iowa State, Kansas, Denver, and Purdue. In doubles play, Liepert primarily competed at the No. 3 spot alongside partner Nora Knezevic and closed the season by winning four of their final five matches together.

Looking ahead, Liepert is set to return for the 2026 season alongside fellow seniors Jeselle Ante and Anlin Xie. With their leadership, experience, and talent returning, the Gophers will enter next season with a strong foundation in place.
