Minnesota Splits Doubleheader, Falls to Colorado Before Defeating Drake

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis team split a doubleheader Sunday, falling to Colorado 4-1 before defeating Drake 6-1 at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Minnesota finished the day 6-4 in singles and 2-2 in doubles.
Minnesota vs. Colorado
Colorado secured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 1. Lera Alexin and Rixt Van Der Werff defeated Mia Liepert and Aiva Schmitz 6-1 at No. 2, and Aya El Sayed and Pia Rebec followed with a 6-4 win over Jeselle Ante and Sofia Pinto at No. 1 to clinch the point. The No. 3 doubles match was tied 4-4 and went unfinished.
In singles play, Colorado won three completed matches to secure the team victory. Jeselle Ante earned Minnesota's lone singles win, defeating Rixt Van Der Werff 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. Aya El Sayed rallied past Aiva Schmitz 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, and Pia Rebec topped Sofia Pinto 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3. Lera Alexin sealed the match with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Anlin Xie at No. 5.
