Minnesota Readies for Michigan State, Michigan

The Golden Gophers will face the Spartans on Thursday and Wolverines on Sunday
MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota soccer team (5-3-1, 1-1-1 Big Ten) looks ahead to another split conference weekend against Michigan State (4-2-4, 1-0-2 Big Ten) on Thursday at home and Michigan (3-6-1, 0-2-1 Big Ten) on Sunday on the road. Both matches can be streamed live on B1G+.

Scouting the Spartans
One of only four Big Ten schools undefeated in conference play, Michigan State earned four points last weekend against No. 4 UCLA and USC. The Spartans tied the fourth-ranked Bruins 1-1 and defeated the Trojans 4-0.
Kennedy Bell led Michigan State, scoring three goals and earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week honors. It marked the first time Bell has received the awards.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2023. The Spartans hold a three-game winning streak over the Gophers.
Scouting the Wolverines
Michigan looks to earn its first conference win this week with games against Nebraska on Thursday and Minnesota on Sunday. So far this season, the Wolverines have tied No. 22 Ohio State and lost to USC and No. 4 UCLA.
Elle Ervin leads Michigan offensively with four goals and two assists, totaling 10 points. Gabrielle Prych also has four goals.
Last season, the Golden Gophers beat the Wolverines 3-0 at home. It marked the first win over Michigan since 2018 and head coach Erin Chastain's 150th career victory.
B1G Win!
Last Thursday, Minnesota picked up its first conference win of the season over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Sophomore Aaryn Gabriel sealed the victory with her first career goal, the game-winner. Senior Freya Jupp put Minnesota on the board first. Kate Childers, Ashley Thurk, Mariah Nguyen, and Avery Petty all notched an assist.
Sweet Caroline!
Redshirt sophomore Caroline Birdsell scored her second goal of the season at Nebraska. Birdsell scored 47 seconds into the match, marking the fastest goal by a Gopher since Olivia Schultz, who scored 33 seconds into the game against Stetson on Aug. 22, 2014.
Super Sarah
Redshirt sophomore Sarah Martin has been a mainstay in net this season for Minnesota. The Champlin, Minnesota, native leads the Big Ten in saves (43) and saves per game (4.78). Martin recorded a career-high nine saves against BYU to open the season and a career-high eight saves on the road at Brown.
