A pair of Gopher pitchers find new homes in Major League Baseball on Day Two

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota baseball team saw two right-handed pitchers be picked on the final day of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday. Incoming freshman Hayden Vucinovich was selected with the 245th overall pick by the Milwaukee Brewers in the eighth round, while senior Seth Clausen was selected with the 467th overall pick by the Colorado Rockies in the 16th round.

The pair continues a streak for Gopher baseball of 38 consecutive years with a draft pick, beginning in 1988 when Jay Kvasnicka was selected in the eighth round by the Minnesota Twins.

A six-foot-one incoming freshman out of Bloomington Jefferson High School (MN), Hayden Vucinovich is ranked as the 291st right-handed pitcher in the nation and the third ranked righty in the state of Minnesota throughout the 2025-26 class by Perfect Game USA. Vucinovich becomes the latest incoming Gopher freshman to be drafted since Alec Willis in 2021 (St. Louis Cardinals, Seventh Round).

Senior right hander Seth Clausen becomes the first Gopher to be drafted by the Colorado Rockies since Terrin Vavra in 2018. The six-foot-one reliever made 23 appearances for the Gophers out of the bullpen in the 2025 season, tallying a 4.96 earned run average and 46 strikeouts over 32.2 innings pitched.

A four time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Clausen was previously ranked as a top 30 Big Ten draft prospect heading into the 2024 season. Throughout his career with Minnesota, he has made 77 total appearances on the hill with 113 strikeouts and a 5.78 ERA.
