The outdoor meet will feature a majority of Minnesota's roster in action.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track and field team is set to compete in the Florida Relays from April 4-5 in Gainesville, Fla., at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track. A majority of the Golden Gopher track team will compete in Florida, excluding the distance crew who participated at the Raleigh Relays last weekend in North Carolina.
ABOUT THE PEPSI FLORIDA RELAYS
With most season debuts in the rear-view mirror, the Maroon and Gold look to build on their outdoor campaign starting on Friday morning. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. CT for the Gophers with the women's hammer throw and will conclude on Saturday at 4:40 p.m. CT. The meet will not be streamed, but fans can follow the live results via PrimeTime Timing.
LAST TIME OUT
For the second consecutive meet a University of Minnesota track and field record fell, the latest being redshirt sophomore Ali Weimer in the women's 10,000m. Weimer set the record on March 28, at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C.
The Maroon and Gold spent three nights in Raleigh, starting on Thursday and ending on Saturday afternoon. Weimer's 10,000m performance helped her finish 11th overall in a field that included each of the top 16 times in the country this season (as of April 3). Weimer's record breaks former Golden Gopher All-American Megan Hasz's school record of 33:09.57 that was set back in 2019 at the Stanford Invitational. The 10,000m school record for Weimer is the second she has set during the 2024-25 academic year with the St. Michael, Minn., native also setting Minnesota's cross country 6000m school record (19:25.0) in November. MINNESOTA'S MEN RANKED THIRD NATIONALLY
The University of Minnesota men's track and field team opened the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) team rankings at the No. 3 spot, the organization announced on April 1. The No. 3 ranking for the Maroon and Gold men's squad is the second highest ranking in program history.
The only other time the men have been ranked higher in the current USTFCCCA ranking system was back in 2023 when the team opened the first outdoor ranking at No. 1. That season the Golden Gopher men finished the season ranked No. 20 and finished tied for 20th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Additionally since 1921, according to the USTFCCCA, in the final national poll Minnesota has been ranked No. 3 twice (1932, 1947) and No. 1 once (1948).
MINNESOTA'S EVENT SQUAD RANKINGS
Alongside the first national rankings, the USTFCCCA released the first Event Squad rankings with the Gophers earning two top spots. The men's long jump (7.60m | 24-11 1/4 average) and men's hammer throw (67.29m | 220-10 average) groups both sit at the top spot in the NCAA. The women's top event squad groups were the 400m hurdles (1:00.86 average) and 5000m (16:53.38 average). For the full rankings, click here.
UP NEXT
Next week Minnesota will be spread around a trio of meets starting with the Brian Clay Multis meet in Azusa, Calif., from April 10-11. The Gophers will also compete at the Throwtown Romona World Invitational in Romona, Okla. from April 11-13 and at the Bethel Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., on April 12.
