Freshmen Lead "U" After First Day of Desert Mountain Collegiate

MINNEAPOLIS - Freshmen Jack Crousore and Chun-Ta Wu lead the University of Minnesota Saturday in the first day of the Desert Mountain Collegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Maroon and Gold concluded the first round with a score of 5-over par. Their second round started off strong, going 6-under through nine holes of play, but was cut short due to daylight. The Gophers currently sit in third place overall with a score of 1-under par.
No. 27 Mississippi State leads the team competition with a score of 12-under par.
Notable:
Wu tallied four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 13th in his first 27 holes of competition. The Australia native finished his day at 6-under par and in sixth place overall.
Crousore nabbed a 3-under 69 in his first round, his second lowest as a member of the Gophers. The freshman tallied six birdies during his first day of competition, placing him in a tie for fifth place.
Junior Cormac Sharpe carded four birdies in his first 18 holes of play, and two more in his second round. Sharpe finished the day tied for 37th with a score of 3-over par.
Junior Jack Wetzel tallied five birdies through his first 27 holes, finishing the first day of competition tied for 77th, while senior Eduardo Galdos concluded the day tied for 90th.
