Freshmen Lead ‘U’ To Top Five Finish At Desert Mountain Collegiate

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota freshmen Jack Crousore and Chun-Ta Wu led the Gophers to a fourth place finish Sunday at the Desert Mountain Collegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Maroon and Gold concluded the final 18 holes of the tournament at 8-under par, tying the lowest score for a team in the final round. Their final round performance gave them a final score of 3-over par for the 54-hole tournament (293-294-280–867).
No. 27 Mississippi State won the team competition with a score of 11-under par. Grand Canyon's Matthew Diehl nabbed medalist honors with a score of 14-under par.
Notable:
Crousore tied his personal best as a member of Minnesota, nabbing a 5-under 67 in his final round. His seven birdies in the final 18 holes elevated him into a fourth-place finish and a score of 7-under par (69-73-67), both new personal bests as a member of the Gophers.
Wu tallied five birdies in his final round, placing him in seventh-place, his best finish as a Gopher. Wu concluded the tournament with a score of 3-under par (70-73-70).
Junior Cormac Sharpe carded six birdies in his final round, giving him a new season best of 68. Sharpe finished the tournament in a tie for 16th place with a score of even-par (75-73-68).
Junior Jack Wetzel finished the tournament tied for 71st (79-76-78), while senior Eduardo Galdos finished tied for 75th (85-75-75).

The Gophers will travel back to Arizona March 24-25 to host the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate at Wigwam Golf Course.
