Gophers Fall 11-7 to High Point Saturday Night

MINNEAPOLIS- The Minnesota Golden Gophers got a boost from sophomore Charlie Sutherland, who racked up three hits in an 11-7 loss to the High Point Panthers Saturday.

Sophomore Kyle Remington (0-4) got the ball to start for Minnesota and took the loss. Senior Seth Clausen was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with one walk and three strikeouts.

In addition to his three hits, Sutherland had a double to lead the Golden Gophers. Junior Weber Neels put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Freshman Jameson Martin also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Gophers were trailing 3-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Martin put Minnesota on the board with a one-out solo home run off sophomore Story.

The Golden Gophers deficit expanded to 8-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Panthers.

Minnesota kept the Panthers off the board before narrowing the gap to 8-7 in the sixth. The Golden Gophers were unable to get any closer, as High Point added three runs to their tally on the way to an 11-7 final.

» Sutherland led the Golden Gophers, amassing three base knocks in the ballgame.
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed three runs across.
» Minnesota went 3-for-8 (.375) with runners in scoring position.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 49 High Point hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out eight.
» Neels led the Golden Gophers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
