EUGENE, ORE.- The Minnesota Gophers (7-9, 1-3 Big Ten), fell 5-2 to the No. 9 Oregon Ducks (16-3, 4-0 Big Ten) Friday evening.
Offensively, the Golden Gophers were paced by junior Easton Richter, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Jack Spanier compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Junior Jake Elbeery also contributed for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
Cole Selvig got the start, throwing 5.2 innings and taking the loss. Joe Sperry entered in relief throwing 2.0 innings with two strikeouts.
How It Happened
- Oregon scored first in the bottom of the second scoring four.
- The Ducks scored again in the top of the third off a solo home run to take a 5-0 lead.
- The Gophers got on the board in the top of the seventh. Elbeery singled and came around to score off an RBI double from Jack Spanier. Easton Richter then singled to bring in Spanier, to make the score 5-2.
- Seven different Gophers recorded a hit.
- Minnesota out hit Oregon 10-9.
- The Gopher offense recorded four doubles.
