Minnesota Falls to Oklahoma on Day One of the Karbach Round Rock Classic.
ROUND ROCK, TEXAS- The Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-3, 0-0 Big 10) fell to the Oklahoma Sooners (4-0, 0-0 SEC) 3-2 on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Cole Selvig (1-1) got the start and threw 4.2 innings, collecting seven strikeouts and taking the loss. Will Whelan threw 3.1 with five strike outs. Joe Sperry threw the ninth inning for the Gophers, striking out one
How it Happened
- Senior Josh Fitzgerald got the Gophers on the board first with a lead off home run in the bottom of the first inning.
- Oklahoma brought it even at one after scoring off an RBI single in the top of the fourth.
- The Sooners then added to their lead after another RBI single in the top of the fifth.
- Oklahoma then scored on a bases loaded balk to make the score 3 to 1 in the top of the eighth.
- Jake Larson led off the bottom of the eighth getting on via hit by pitch before coming around to score off an RBI single from Easton Richter to make the score Gophers 2, Sooners 3.
Game Notes
- Red shirt senior Josh Fitzgerald hit his first home run of the season.
- Six different Gophers picked up a hit (Fitzgerald, Richter, Elbeery, Lozier, Knoll, and Spanier).
- Fitzgerald and Richter each picked up an RBI.
-Oklahoma righty Kyson Witherspoon threw 7.0 innings for the Sooners.
