'U' Opens Year 52 with Intrasquad Meet

The meet is set for 11 a.m. tomorrow at Maturi Pavilion

MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 15 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team will get its 2025-26 season started with the annual Maroon and Gold Intrasquad meet tomorrow morning. It's set to begin at 11 a.m. inside Maturi Pavilion and B1G+ will stream. Doors at the Pav will open at 10 a.m.

Fans are encouraged to enter Maturi Pavilion through the West Entrance. Doors will open at 10 a.m. CT. Minnesota will go through all four rotations, with the first two consisting of vault and beam.

HEADING INTO 2026
  • Minnesota is ranked No. 15 coming into the 2026 season in the WCGA Preseason Poll.
  • Jenny Hansen is heading into year 12 of her tenure at Minnesota. The Gophers have been to 10 NCAA Regionals under her watch, with three trips to nationals. Assistant coach Kiki Parenteau (5th year) is back in 2025 while Sam Scherwinski and Mya Hooten have been added to the staff for their first years. Scherwinski spent last year at Nebraska while Hooten was a gymnast at Minnesota for the last five years, earning over 13 All-America honors. She helped the Gophers make five NCAA Regionals, including nationals appearances in 2021 and 2022.
  • The Gophers were picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced Tuesday. Senior Gianna Gerdes and junior Jordyn Lyden were named Big Ten 'Gymnasts to Watch'. Gerdes, a two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection, returns to Minnesota after a year out of gymnastics while Lyden was Second Team All-Big Ten and a Big Ten All-Championships Team selection last year.
  • Minnesota rosters 20 gymnasts for the 2026 season. That group includes five freshmen, three sophomores, six juniors, four seniors and two fifth-year seniors. 
  • 2024 Big Ten Balance Beam Champion Sarah Moraw (Beam) returns for her senior year in 2026.
  • Two-time Canadian Olympian Ava Stewart is set for her sophomore year in the Maroon and Gold. As a true freshman last year, she notched 9.925's on vault, bars and beam for season-bests. She took home three vault and three beam event titles.
2025 SEASON IN REVIEW
  • The team finished with a 25-7 (8-1 Big Ten) record and its best conference finish since the 2020 season (8-1).
  • Second place conference finish is tied for the second-best ever in the Jenny Hansen era.
  • 29th consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance as a team.
  • One of just three Big Ten teams to make four of the last five regional finals.
  • Second straight year having an individual qualify for nationals.
  • Big Ten Championships score of 197.425 was the third highest Minnesota score in the history of the Big Ten Championships.
  • Four Golden Gophers earned All-Big Ten honors, including Mya Hooten making her five all-league team in five seasons. Jordyn LydenSarah Moraw and Ava Stewart were named Second Team All-Big Ten while Stewart became the first freshman since 2021 to make the B1G All-Freshman Team.
  • Mya Hooten made nationals for the fourth time in her career, including her second straight year as an individual. Hooten won floor event titles in 11 of 15 meets, going 9.900-or-better 10 times.
  • Mya was named First Team All-Big Ten, WCGA Second Team All-America, NCAA Championships Second Team All-America and Academic All-Big Ten.
  • Eighth straight season with a WCGA Regular Season All-American.
  • Third time in the last five seasons with an NCAA Championships All-American.
  • Seventh straight year with four-or-more All-B1G selections.
  • Eighth straight year with 10+ Academic All-Big Ten honorees.
2025 SCHEDULE NOTES
  • The 2026 Their upcoming slate features six home dates, five away meets and the Big Ten Championships in Illinois.
  • Overall, Minnesota's schedule features seven matchups against opponents that finished in the WCGA top-25 last season, including three top-10 opponents in No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Utah and No. 6 Michigan State.
  • Minnesota's home schedule includes meets against No. 10 Arkansas, No. 14 Michigan and No. 4 UCLA. No. 6 Michigan State comes to town for the Big 4 Meet as well.
  • in Big Ten competitions, the Gophers will head to Penn State, Nebraska and Washington for road meets.
  • The Big Ten Championships are set for March 21 in Champaign, Ill.
