MINNEAPOLIS -- Competing in its first dual since Dec. 1, No. 8 Minnesota (4-0) opens competition within the Big Ten Saturday at No. 6 Nebraska (5-1). The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network with live results on TrackWrestling.com.
Minnesota heads into the weekend with a 4-0 record in duals this season, winning 38 of the 40 individual matchups and outscoring opponents, 148-6 . In fact, the team has not lost a matchup outside of 174 pounds in a dual so far this year.
The Gophers topped Bucknell on Nov. 15, 35-3, before shutting out both North Dakota State, 39-0, and Campbell, 44-0. It was the first time posting back-to-back shutouts since blanking four straight opponents in December of 1997 when current head coach Brandon Eggum was a sophomore on the team. Prior to that, the only other time it happened in program history came in the first three matches of the 1936-37 campaign. Most recently, the Gophers closed out their non-conference schedule by winning at then-No. 17 South Dakota State, 30-3, on Dec. 1.
Minnesota has won 10 straight duals dating back to last season. During the current streak, Minnesota has outscored opponents 329-54 and hasn't allowed more than 12 points in any dual.
Ten Gopher wrestlers are ranked in at least two of the major polls with eight appearing in all four: Intermat, Win Magazine, FloWrestling and OpenMat. Gable Steveson (285) is ranked No. 1 in all four polls, while Max McEnelly (184) is top-five in each. Cooper Flynn (125) is sixth or better in each poll, while Vance VomBaur (141) and Andrew Sparks (165) are ninth or better and Isaiah Salazar (197) is in the top-10 in each ranking.
McEnelly is 10-0 on the season with nine bonus-points wins, including eight by tech fall. Those eight tech fall wins rank tied for third in the nation behind Purdue's Matt Ramos (10) and Rutgers' Dean Peterson (9), according to WrestleStat.com.
VomBaur is 14-1 on the year with six of the wins coming by major decision. That ties him for second in the country in MD wins. Only Utah Valley's Terrell Barraclough has more with seven.

The Cornhuskers enter Saturday with a 5-1 record in duals this season. They won the first five of the season, including a 34-3 win at then-No. 25 North Carolina on Nov. 15, but fell to 10th-ranked Northern Iowa last weekend, 24-9, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Minnesota and Nebraska have one common opponent this year in Campbell. The Golden Gophers shut out the Fighting Camels, 44-0, in Minneapolis on Nov. 24, while the Huskers went on the road for their 40-6 victory on Nov. 15.
Minnesota fifth-year senior Tommy Askey (157) and Nebraska graduate student Caleb Smith (125) were teammates at Appalachian State for three seasons from 2020-21 to 2022-23. Askey is in his first season with the Gophers, while Smith is in year two with the Huskers.
