SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Junior Connor Wietgrefe was mowing people down on Sunday, striking out a career-high 13 San Francisco hitters over six innings of work to help power the Minnesota Golden Gophers past the Dons 12-6.

In addition to his 13 strikeouts, Wietgrefe (2-1) threw six innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on seven hits and walking just one for Minnesota (10-10).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Gophers scored in six different innings on the way to the win. After getting out to an early 1-0 lead in the second, the Dons answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own.

The Gophers bounced back in the third, scoring four runs, capped off by sophomore Kris Hokenson's three-run homer to give the 'U' the lead for good.

After scoring one run in both the fifth and sixth innings, the Gophers put up another four-spot in the seventh. Sophomore Weber Neels began the inning with a solo home run before Sam Hunt and Jake Larson collected back-to-back RBI hits to make it 11-5.

The Dons pushed one across in the bottom of the seventh, but the Gophers got it back in the top of the ninth to make it 12-6.
