Wilson Walks Off Nebraska in Extras to Open Series

MINNEAPOLIS – Eli Wilson's three-run home run in the tenth inning walked the Gopher Baseball team off as a 5-2 winner over Nebraska in its first home outing of the Big Ten season at Siebert Field on Friday afternoon.
Riley Smith led off the bottom of the tenth with a single before Zack Raabe, who entered the game in the sixth inning as a defensive replacement, bunted him to second. An intentional walk to Ben Mezzenga followed before Wilson's heroics gave Minnesota (10-13, 4-0 Big Ten) the victory.
Huskers left fielder Mojo Hagge led off the game with a home run, but Max Meyer took control over 8.0 innings of work while the Gopher) offense scraped across single runs in the third and the fifth innings to gain the lead. Nebraska (12-8, 3-1 Big Ten) took advantage of a pair of hits in the seventh inning to knot the game back up at 2 run apiece.
In the battle of the aces, Matt Waldron matched Meyer through eight innings, striking out seven while allowing eight Gopher hits. Minnesota turned the ball to Brett Schulze (3-0) in the ninth, and the right-hander proceeded to strike out the side in the inning. Robbie Palkert (1-2) entered the game for the Huskers in the ninth, holding Minnesota off the board to send the game to extra innings.
Schulze continued his dominance on the hill in the tenth, working around a double by striking out the side again in the inning, totaling six punch-outs on the day for the Gophers.
NOTABLE
Wilson hit Minnesota's first walk-off home run since Bobby Juan against Purdue on May 10, 2014. The Gophers' last walk-off hit came against Indiana on May 6, 2018 … Meyer marked a new career high with 8.0 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts on the day … the game marked the first time a Gopher has collected at least 10 strikeouts since Lucas Gilbreath on May 5, 2017 at Penn State … Schulze continues his streak of consecutive appearances without a defeat. The right-hander is 12-0 in his last 25 outings dating back to 2017.
