University Park, Penn. - The University of Minnesota completed the sweep of Penn State Sunday with a 12-3 victory.

The Gophers are now 29-15 overall and 12-6 in the Big Ten after sweeping the Nittany Lions.

Minnesota struck first with three runs in the first inning. Terrin Vavra started off with a one-out single off the right field wall then advanced to third on a Micah Coffey single. Toby Hanson brought Vavra home with the third single in a row, this one through the right side. Two batters later, Penn State committed one error on an Alex Boxwell single, allowing Coffey and Hanson to score.

Another three spot was added in the second inning beginning when Ben Menzzenga laid down a one-out bunt single. He advanced to second base on a throwing error when the pitcher attempted to pick him off. Mezzenga then scored on a Kozicky single to right field. He scored on Vavra triple to right center field then Vavra scored on a Coffey double down the right field line.

For the third inning in a row, the Maroon and Gold put up a three spot, this time in the third inning. Boxwell led off the inning with a single to center field then moved over to second base on a Cole McDevitt walk. A sacrifice bunt by Luke Pettersen moved the runners to second and third. Mezzenga walked to fill the bases for Kozicky who singled through the left side of the infield, scoring two runners. Next Vavra sent a sacrifice fly out to left field that allowed Mezzenga to score to make it 9-0 in favor of Minnesota.

Minnesota scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Mezzenga singled to the shortstop for his second infield single of the game. Then Vavra singled to left field to put runners on first and second for Coffey. Coffey was hit by a pitch then Hanson doubled to left center, driving in Mezzenga and Vavra.
The Gophers added one more run in the top half of the seventh inning when Vavra reached base on a walk then when base to base and scored on three wild pitches.

Reggie Meyer made his fourth start of the season and went 4.2 innings. He allowed one earned run on four hits en route to his third win of the season. Toby Anderson came in to relieve Meyer and threw 1.2 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two batters.

Fred Manke threw 1.2 innings where he didn't allow a hit and struck out one batter. Nick Lackney pitched the ninth inning where he allowed one run on three hits while striking out one batter.
