Gophers Fall in Rubber Match vs No. 10 LBSU

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota fell 9-1 in the rubber game of the nonconference series versus No. 10 Long Beach State Sunday.

The Gophers are now 30-17 overall this season and sit at 12-6 in the Big Ten.

The lone run for the Maroon and Gold came in the bottom of the third inning. Terrin Vavra drew a one-out, four pitch walk. Vavra stole second base then scored on a Toby Hanson single that went through the left side of the infield. That was Hanson's team leading 47th RBI.

Reggie Meyer started on the mound for Minnesota and threw one inning. He was tagged with his first loss of the season after allowing one earned run on no hits. The first pitcher out of the bullpen was Nick Lackney who pitched 1.2 innings where he allowed three earned runs on five hits. He struck out one batter.

Toby Anderson tossed 1.1 innings of one hit ball and allowed one earned run while striking out one batter. Jackson Rose took over for Anderson for one inning. He allowed one earned run on two hits and also had one strikeout. Next was Jake Stevenson who pitched one inning. He allowed one earned run on one hit and struck out one batter.

Tim Shannon tossed one scoreless inning then Alex Farley gave up one earned run on three hits in one inning of work. The freshman also recorded one strikeout. The final pitcher of the game was Brian Glowicki. The senior tossed one inning of no hit ball and struck out one batter.

The Gophers will host Rutgers for a double header on Tuesday. The first game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.

  • Jordan Kozicky has now reached base in 30 consecutive bases after he led off the game with a walk.
  • Hanson was 2-4 and picked up his 47th RBI of the season.
