Gophers Fall to NDSU 3-1

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota fell 3-1 Tuesday night to the North Dakota State Bison at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Nolan Burchill made his collegiate debut as he took the mound for the Gophers. He started off his college career by retiring the first ten batters he faced. The freshman picked up the loss after striking out six batters in 4.1 innings while allowing two hits and one earned run.
Jake Stevenson was the first pitcher out of the bullpen for Minnesota and threw 1.1 innings where he struck out one batter. Jeff Fasching faced one batter who grounded out to Terrin Vavra at second base.
In the seventh inning Jackson Rose made his second appearance of the year. He threw 0.2 innings, striking out one batter, allowing two hits and two earned runs. Following Rose was Time Shannon who faced three batters, walking one and giving up one hit.
Alex Farley finished the game on the mound for the Gophers, going 2.0 hitless innings where he struck out one of the six batters he faced.
Minnesota's lone run came in the bottom of the ninth inning when Micah Coffey reached on a throwing error then advanced to second when the ball got caught in the chairs in the bullpen. Coffey advanced to third base when Matt Stemper grounded out to shortstop. Vavra followed that with a single to the outfield that was bobbled by the Bison outfielder that allowed Coffey to score and Vavra to advance to second base with two outs. The game ended when Toby Hanson grounded out to the first basemen, stranding Vavra at second.
