Head coach John Anderson opening statement...

"A big part of the game is pitching. We gave up five runs in the first two innings. You get into the tournament here, it's all about starting pitching, getting quality starting pitching, especially, gets you out of the gate pretty quickly well. Compliments to Iowa. I thought they played extremely well in all phases of the game. Their pitchers executed pitches, multiple pitches, off-speed and fastball location was outstanding. They put the ball in play. They were very aggressive early in the count, they put the ball in play and they found places where we couldn't catch it."

Anderson on final relief pitcher...

"I compliment Ty McDevitt. He really stabilized the game and gave us a chance so we didn't have to burn up more pitching than we did here tonight."

Connor Schaefbauer on hitting home run...

"At the time, we were down by five and the right fielder had just made a great play that kind of killed our inning. [The hit] was a good swing on a mistake, one of the few [C.J. Eldred] made tonight, and at the time it got us back with reach at 5-2. But, they just kept hitting, so they outplayed us today and they found some holes and that's how it goes."

Anderson on Dan Motl's defense...

"[Motl] gets an outstanding jump on the ball. He gets good reads off the bat and takes outstanding angles. His path to the ball is extremely well. He gets good jumps, he gets good reads, he's able to read swings. That comes from experience playing out [in center field]. He's got closing speed. He really gets to top speed pretty quickly and he's able to run some balls down that you don't think he's going to get to, like tonight. I think it starts with him being able to get a good first step right off the bat, being able to get the right angle to the ball and judge where it's going to end up. I've seen it for four years and he's just gotten better and better."
