Gophers Close Day One of Gopher Invitational and Husker Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS- The University of Minnesota tennis team split action at the Gopher Invitational, held at Baseline Tennis Center, and Husker Invitational, in Lincoln, Neb. Minnesota had five student-athletes compete in the home event, while an additional four competed in Lincoln.

Gopher Invitational Results
The University of Minnesota tennis team competed in day one of the 14th annual Gopher Invitational on Friday going 4-1 in doubles and 2-2 in singles.
In doubles play, Jeselle Ante and Anlin Xie opened with a 6-1 win over St. Thomas individuals, Alize Yarwood and Else Vander Stichele. Kamea Medora and Anali Kocevar defeated Marquette's Elena Duva and Lizzie Stuckslager 7-5. Ante and Xie later earned a 6-4 victory over Northern Illinois Lucia Yecora and Natalia Varela Herrera. In the second round Medora and Kocevar lost to UW-Milwaukee's Natalia Castaneda Guerrero and Valentina Vallova, 3-6. Leina Gao and Miranda Noor (Drake) competed in mixed doubles and defeated Honoka Yamashita (UW-Milwaukee) and Kayla Santosa (Northern Iowa) 6-2.
In singles play, Gao opened singles action with a 2-6, 3-6 loss over Tommies' Else Vander Stichele. Medora lost to Northern Illinois Iben Storkaas 5-7, 0-6, while Xie defeated Anna Sidorenko (St. Thomas) 6-1, 6-3. Ante ended day one with a tight 6-4, 4-6,14-12 victory over Northern Illinois Irmak Budak.

In doubles play, Massiva Boukirat and Ksenia Hanke fell to Denver University's Yunfei Cai and Frankie Tye 3-7. Mia Liepert and Nora Knezevic won 8-7 against Wichita State's Alina Vysochenko and Alisa Ozgun.
In singles play, Liepert opened with a 4-6,3-6 loss against Nebraska's Katie Spencer, while Hanke lost to Denver's Caroline Daugherty 4-6, 6-4, 3-6. Knezevic defeated Denver's Ruby Hansen 6-4, 6-3. To close out day one, Boukirat defeated Wichita State's Alina Vysochenko 6-2, 6-2.
