Gopher Sports: Can you take me through your background?

Savannah Enriquez:
"I grew up in San Marcos, California. I have two sisters and I'm the middle child, so I have an older sister and a younger sister. Both of my parents are from the Bay Area in California, and I went to school at Mission Hills."

GS: How did you get into soccer?
SE:
"My parents just signed me up for my local AYSO team. After I was there for a few years, they signed me up for competitive soccer. And then I played on Carlsbad United, which eventually grew into City SC. And I was there for 13 years."

GS: When did you realize that you really had a future playing college soccer?
SE:
"I was always the youngest on the team because I was born in December. Every now and then I would get called up to play with the older team and being able just to compete with all of the older girls. I felt like I really started to have something there, and that was kind of the beginning."

GS: Do you have any favorite memories playing club soccer or on your high school soccer team?
SE:
"For club soccer, definitely our team trips. Just hanging out with the girls in the hotel, and being able to travel with people besides our family. Exploring new areas while playing soccer was really fun!"

GS: Why Minnesota?
SE:
"Definitely the prestigious academics here and research opportunities. But also the opportunity to play in the Big Ten was what really stood out to me. Meeting the coaching staff and the players during my visit showed me that there is such a family-oriented culture here."

GS: What are you majoring in and what do you want to do with it?
SE:
"Biomedical Engineering. Hopefully something in biotech or medical devices."

GS: How would you describe yourself as a player to those who haven't seen you play yet?
SE:
"I've been described as a hard worker and disruptor. Especially in the midfield, I'm able to disrupt the opponents and whatever their plays are, and then just distribute the ball well to my teammates."

GS: What are you looking forward to most this year in your first season as a Golden Gopher?
SE:
"Meeting all of the team, being able to play in the Big Ten and also pursuing my degree."

GS: Do you have any goals for yourself this season?
SE:
"To be the best version of myself on and off the field, and being able to develop at any opportunity I can."

GS: Do you have a favorite soccer player?
SE:
"Lately, it's been Alyssa Thompson because she's from SoCal and she's very young so it's really inspiring."
