Gophers Drop Regular Season Finale to No. 24 Nebraska, 14-11

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out their 2026 regular season against the No. 24 ranked University of Nebraska tonight, dropping the season finale 14-11 to the Cornhuskers at Siebert Field.
Marcus Kruzan started and was credited with the loss on the mound for Minnesota. Ben Gregory was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
Jack Bello went 3-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with two RBIs. Ty Allen added to the power-hitting performance by going 3 for 5 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Sam Hunt also chipped in for the Golden Gophers, going 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Minnesota scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from Sam Hunt and an RBI double from Jack Spanier.
The Gophers deficit expanded to 11-3 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into the deficit in the fourth inning. Minnesota picked up a run on a leadoff home run off the bat of Jack Bello, which brought the score to 11-4 in favor of the Cornhuskers.
Minnesota held the Cornhuskers off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 11-6 in the fifth, adding to the score with a two run home run off the bat of Ty Allen.
The Cornhuskers expanded their lead to 12-6 before the Minnesota offense got back to work, digging into that lead in the sixth. The Gophers scored four runs in the inning on Jack Bello's second home run of the day, a two run base hit from Charlie Sutherland, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Easton Richter, bringing the score to 12-10 in favor of Nebraska.
Nebraska built their lead to 14-10 before the Gophers offense got in action in the eighth, reducing that lead to 14-11. Minnesota picked up a run on Davis Hamilton's one-out solo home run.
The Gophers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
