Gophers Drop 6-4 Decision at Indiana in Series Finale

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Maggie Werner recorded three hits, including a home run, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers fell 6-4 to the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday in the series finale.

Sydney Schwartz (5-6) started in the circle and took the loss for Minnesota (8-15, 1-2 Big Ten).

Werner led the Gophers offensively, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Lucy Hooper added an RBI, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate, while Cassie Johnson chipped in with two hits in three at-bats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota struck first in the top of the fifth inning, plating two runs to take an early lead.

Indiana responded with a five-run rally to move in front 5-2 before the Gophers answered in the sixth. Werner delivered a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 5-4, but Minnesota was unable to draw any closer. The Hoosiers added an insurance run later in the inning to secure the 6-4 win.
