Gophers Blank SIUE 5-0 Behind Richardson, Susa Shutout Effort

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Macy Richardson and Natalie Susa combined to toss a two-hit shutout as Minnesota blanked SIUE, 5-0, on Tuesday at Cougar Softball Field.
Richardson (3-4) earned the win for the Gophers (9-15), tossing five shutout innings while allowing just one hit with one walk and four strikeouts. Susa was equally strong out of the bullpen, working two scoreless innings while giving up one hit, walking one and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota took control in the second inning, scoring the game's first run. Jessa Snippes crossed the plate on a Tinley Easton double to left field to give the Gophers a 1-0 lead.
The Gophers broke the game open in the fifth, plating four runs. Jae Cosgriff started the rally with a solo home run to left field before Scarlett Kuhn followed later in the inning with a three-run blast.
Minnesota's pitching staff handled the rest, keeping the Cougars off the board for the remainder of the contest.
