STARTING FIVE
• The Golden Gopher men's basketball team closes out the regular season on Saturday at 8 p.m. when it hosts Northwestern. Minnesota and Northwestern are meeting for the second time this season. The Gophers won the first game, 84-78, in Evanston, Ill. That win snapped a three-game Northwestern win streak, dating back to 2024.
• Minnesota will honor its senior class and their families: Maximus Gizzi, Langston Reynolds, RJ Spencer and Cade Tyson prior to the start of Saturday's game. This senior group has combined to play in 378 collegiate basketball games. Gizzi has played in 131 games, nine of which were Division I. Reynolds follows with 122 games, followed by Tyson with 121 and RJ Spencer with four.
• Minnesota (14-16, 7-12) is coming off a 77-47 loss to Indiana on Wednesday night. Cade Tyson scored 21 points and Isaac Asuma had 13 points, but Indiana shot 57 percent and made 10-of-24 three-pointers to snap a four-game skid with a 77-47 win at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The teams split the season series, as the Gophers recorded a 73-64 win over then-No. 22 Indiana on Dec. 3 at Williams Arena.
Cade Tyson has scored 20 points in four straight games and 14 total times this season. In those four games, Tyson has scored 31 field goals, including 18 threes. On the year, Tyson averages 19.7 points, which ranks sixth in the league, as does his 570 points this season. He has also produced two 30-point games in his senior year and has scored double-figure points in each of his 29 games.
• Following the game on Saturday, Minnesota will wait to see its seeding in the Big Ten Tournament next week. The Gophers are likely to finish as an 11, 12, or 13 seed and earn a Tuesday bye in the 2026 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament in Chicago. The regular season concludes Sunday, with four games scheduled.
ALL-TIME SERIES
• Minnesota leads the all-time series at 102-74 over the Northwestern Wildcats, dating back to 1909.
• Minnesota earned an 84-78 win on Jan. 3. Cade Tyson scored a game-high 24 points, including 17 in the second half, while Isaac Asuma added season-highs of 18 points and nine rebounds and Langston Reynolds finished with 13 points and a career-high 13 assists. The Gophers trailed, 67-60, with 4:39 left, but outscored the Wildcats 24-11 from that point on.

ABOUT THE NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS
• Northwestern has won three of its last four games and enters the Minnesota game with a 13-17 overall record and 5-14 in Big Ten play. In their final home game of the season, Northwestern fell 70-66 against No. 15 Purdue. Prior to that, the Wildcats defeated Oregon, Indiana and Maryland.
• The Wildcats have the Big Ten's top scorer on their team in senior Nick Martinelli. The 2025 All-Big Ten selection leads the league in points per game (22.7) and points (659). He also leads Northwestern in rebounds (6.1), field goals (229), three-point shooting percentage (40-of-95 for 42.1 percent) and free throws made (161) and attempts (198). Arrinten Page averages 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds, while Jayden Reid averages 10.1 points and a team-best 146 assists and 30 steals. Tre Singleton also averages 4.8 rebounds and 7.6 points.
• As a team, the Wildcats are averaging 73.4 points, while allowing 72.4. They are shooting 45.8 percent from the field, including 32.6 percent from beyond the arc. Northwestern averages 31.0 rebounds and has 259 turnovers this season.
