LAST TIME OUT
The University of Minnesota track and field team posted 11 different program top 10 performances between the men and women at the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa, Fla., at USF Track and Field Stadium. The highlight of the two-day meet came on Saturday in the men's 4x100m relay with Minnesota posting the fourth-fastest time in the world in 2026 by stopping the clock in 38.69. The quartet of John CalebWanyae BelleAaron Charles and Charles Godfred combined to post the No. 2 time in school history (38.69), with the only faster time at Minnesota coming back in 2025 at the NCAA Championships semifinal round (38.16).

On the women's side both Kennedy Martinson and Nontokozo Ncube posted two program top 10 performances. Martinson's 58.30 in her first 400m hurdles race in college went down as No. 8 all-time at Minnesota while her 13.73 (+0.4 m/s) improved on her No. 7 all-time spot in the 100m hurdles at the 'U'. Ncube started her weekend off with a lifetime best 800m time of 2:05.63 to finish third overall in Tampa and move to No. 4 all-time at Minnesota. Then on Saturday the Zimbabwe international clocked a 53.16 in the 400m to leap up to No. 5 in Minnesota history. The 53.16 in the 400m is the fastest by a Gopher since 2023 when both Jayla Campbell and Janielle Josephs ran faster.

CALEB COLLECTS FIRST BIG TEN WEEKLY HONOR
For the first time this outdoor season the University of Minnesota men's track and field team earned weekly honors from the Big Ten Conference. Freshman John Caleb earned his first Freshman of the Week nod of his career after his performances at the Beach Opener and the USF Alumni Invite over the past two weeks, the conference office announced on March 25.

Caleb, a native of Ogun State, Nigeria, joined the Maroon and Gold in January and has taken the NCAA by storm in his first two competitions in the Maroon and Gold uniform. After a 10.22 (+0.6 m/s) performance in the 100m at the Beach Opener, Caleb dropped a career-best time of 10.18 (+1.0 m/s) at the USF Alumni Invitational to finish as the runner-up. Caleb's 100m time ranks him No. 3 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the Big Ten in 2026. He is now No. 3 all-time at Minnesota in the 100m, and in the process became the fifth Gopher since 2022 to run faster than 10.23. In the 200m event Caleb posted a windy time of 20.46 (+5.0 m/s) at the Beach Opener to finish as the runner-up and followed that up with a 20.75 (-0.4 m/s) in Tampa, Fla., to move to No. 6 all-time at Minnesota. As the lead leg of Minnesota's 4x100m relay at the USF Alumni Invite, Caleb helped the 'U' secure the event win at the USF Alumni Invite with a time of 38.69. Along with Belle, Charles and Charles Godfred the Minnesota quartet ranks No. 1 in the NCAA in 2026 and No. 4 in the world.

NABWE NAMED TO 'THE BOWERMAN' WATCH LIST
University of Minnesota women's track and field redshirt junior Anthonett Nabwe has been recognized as one of 10 student-athletes on the Women's 2026 Update No. 3 Watch List for The Bowerman, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on March 25. The honor for the Liberian thrower makes her just the second Golden Gopher woman to be featured on any 'The Bowerman' Watch List.

The award considers athletes' performances during the NCAA indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons with the performance window running from December 1 of the preceding year through the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the year in which the award is given. Nabwe is the first Gopher since 2010 (Alicia Rue) to be named to 'The Bowerman' Watch List. Just 12 days ago Nabwe made history at the NCAA Indoor Championships becoming the weight throw national champion with a toss of 25.13m (82-5 1/2) in Fayetteville, Ark., at Randal Tyson Track Center. The two-time Big Ten weight throw champion became the second Gopher to win an NCAA title in the weight throw, joining Kaitlyn Long in 2018. Nabwe's weight throw moved her to No. 3 all-time in the event, and was the best throw by a collegiate woman since 2022 (Shey Taiwo, Ole Miss). Nabwe currently owns the all-time Big Ten record in the weight throw, Minnesota's school record and is now a four-time indoor All-American between the weight throw and shot put.
