Gophers Drop Tight Battle at Rutgers, 4-2

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The University of Minnesota tennis team fell to Rutgers 4-2 on Saturday at Livingston Tennis Center, dropping to 10-9 on the season.
 
Key Moments
Rutgers secured the doubles point with wins on courts No. 3 and No. 2. Jeselle Ante and Yinong Ma fell 6-1 to Stella Schmitz and Naomi Karki, followed by a 6-3 loss from Mia Liepert and Anlin Xie to Karina Jumazhanova and Zeynep Ilker. Nora Knezevic and Arina Valitova led 5-4 over Mai Nguyen and Zuzanna Frankowska at No. 1 before the match went unfinished.

Rutgers secured the match with singles wins on courts No. 6, No. 4 and No. 1. Anlin Xie earned Minnesota's first point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stella Schmitz at No. 5 before Nora Knezevic fell 6-4, 6-1 to Savannah Cohen at No. 6. Sofia Pinto dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Zeynep Ilker at No. 4, while Aiva Schmitz picked up a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Karina Jumazhanova at No. 3. Jeselle Ante was defeated in three sets by Mai Nguyen, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, at No. 1, while Mia Liepert's match against Zuzanna Frankowska at No. 2 went unfinished.
