Minnesota Drops Pair on First Day in Columbia, Mo.

GAME ONE
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Minnesota Golden Gophers were unable to break through against Iowa State junior pitcher Lauren Schurman on Friday, falling 3-0 to the Cyclones despite collecting six hits.
Senior Sydney Schwartz (5-7) started in the circle and took the loss for Minnesota (9-17). Junior Macy Richardson provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing two shutout innings while allowing three hits.
Offensively, the Gophers were led by junior Brooklyn Jones, who went 2-for-3 at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, finishing 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Gophers' best chance came in the seventh inning when Jones reached third with two outs, but Minnesota was unable to bring her home.
GAME NOTES
» Minnesota pitchers faced 29 Iowa State hitters, inducing 10 groundouts and four flyouts while striking out three.
» Jones led the Gophers offensively with a 2-for-3 performance.
GAME TWO
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sophomore Tinley Easton went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers fell 8-1 to Missouri on Friday evening.
Junior Macy Richardson (3-6) started in the circle for Minnesota (9-18) and was charged with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Minnesota got on the board when Easton scored the Gophers' lone run of the game. Missouri answered with four additional runs the rest of the way to secure the 8-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
» Minnesota's only run came in the fourth inning.
