Gophers Fall in Seventh Inning to South Dakota

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Minnesota Golden Gophers fell in their final match in Columbia, Mo. on Saturday afternoon. Minnesota took a 4-0 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 5-4 to the South Dakota Coyotes.

Sophomore Natalie Susa (0-6) took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (9-19). Senior Sydney Schwartz started the ballgame and went five shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking one and striking out five.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Sophomore Tinley Easton came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota and get them on the board.

The Coyotes failed to push any runs across before the Golden Gophers built on their lead in the fourth inning. which brought the Golden Gophers lead to 4-0. The Golden Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as South Dakota scored five times over the remaining three innings to grab the 5-4 win.

GAME NOTES
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed three runs across.
» Minnesota went 4-for-11 (.364) with runners in scoring position.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 32 South Dakota hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and four fly balls while striking out six.
» The Golden Gophers drew six walks from South Dakota pitching.
» Sophomore Jae Cosgriff led the Golden Gophers at the plate, going 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
