No. 17 'U' Falls to No. 5 UCLA in Front of Sellout Crowd

Minnesota set a gymnastics program attendance record with 5,081 fans
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 17 Minnesota gymnastics team fell to the No. 5 UCLA Bruins in a Big Ten matchup on Saturday night at Maturi Pavilion. The final score was 197.550-197.275, Minnesota's best score of the season. A program-record 5,081 fans attended the meet.
"It was so much fun tonight," said coach Hansen. "Being able to walk out and see every seat filled was fantastic. Just the energy here tonight, it couldn't be matched."
Minnesota moved to 4-3 (2-2 B1G) on the year while UCLA advanced to 8-2 (4-0 B1G). The Bruins are 13-0 in Big Ten play since joining the league last season. Two-time Olympian Jordan Chiles stole the show for the Bruins, going a meet-best 39.625 all-around, including a perfect 10 on the floor.
The Gophers posted scores of 49.425 on vault, 49.175 on bars, 49.325 on beam and 49.350 on the floor. UCLA went 49.400 on vault, 49.300 on bars, 49.425 on beam and 49.425 on the floor.
Individually, Arianna Ostrum led the 'U' on vault (9.950) and Emma Slevin (9.900) led Minnesota on bars. Lauren Pearl (9.925) led on beam and Jordyn Lyden led on the floor with a career-best 9.950.
"Today was so awesome," Lyden said. "The energy in the building helped us keep the momentum going and it was electric in here. We absolutely loved this. We know Jordan Chiles brings in a lot of fans and we hope that they all got to see what Minnesota gymnastics is all about."
Arianna Ostrum won her fourth career event title with her career-best 9.950 on vault. UCLA's Ashlee Sullivan (9.925) won on bars. Pearl tied for her second beam title with her 9.925 with UCLA's Ciena Alipio. UCLA's Jordan Chiles won on the floor with a perfect 10.
"I was so excited for our fans when we got the schedule," Hansen said. "To be able to bring an Olympian back to Minnesota, I knew our fans would absolutely love it. They got to witness great gymnastics from two great teams today."

VAULT
Minnesota had its vault performance of the year to start the meet, with all six gymnasts going 9.850-or-better. Arianna Ostrum anchored the group and set a career-high with a 9.950. Isabella Nguyen made her collegiate vault debut and did not disappoint, going 9.875. Teryn Crump and Sarah Moraw joined her with 9.875's while Gianna Gerdes and Ava Stewart went 9.850. Minnesota led 49.425-49.300 after one rotation.
BARS
The Gophers earned a 49.175 on the uneven bars. Emma Slevin led the group and tied a career-high with a 9.900. Freshman Lacie Saltzmann was on her heels with a 9.875. Jordyn Lyden went 9.825 and Teryn Crump tallied a 9.800. Gianna Gerdes and Arianna Ostrum rounded out the group with 9.775s. After two rotations, Minnesota trailed 98.700-97.600.
BEAM
Minnesota bounced back with a strong performance from its beam team, tallying a 49.325. Lauren Pearl led the way with a season-best 9.925 while Brooklyn Rowray went 9.900, her second-best total of the season. Jordyn Lyden anchored the group with a 9.875 while Arianna Ostrum (9.825) and Sarah Moraw (9.800) capped the top five. UCLA led Minnesota 148.125-147.925 after three rotations. The Gophers had to make up .200 with one rotation to go.
FLOOR
The 'U' tallied a 49.350 floor score to end the meet. Jordyn Lyden went 9.950, a career-best, to anchor the Gophers. Arianna Ostrum earned a career-best 9.925 in the five spot. Leah Gonsiorowski went 9.875 and Sophie Swartzmiller earned a 9.850 while Lacie Saltzmann and Megan Steensland rounded out the group with 9.750s.

-The Gophers dropped to 3-1 at home in 2026, winning three of four meets against top-25 opponents (No. 5 UCLA, No. 5 Michigan, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 24 Iowa).
-Sophie Swartzmiller went 9.850 on the floor, marking her tenth straight meet going 9.850-or-better, dating back to the 2025 season.
-Jordyn Lyden set a career-best on the floor with a 9.950.
