Diaz-Loung will have five years of eligibility

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota gymnastics program has announced the addition of one more student-athlete to the signing class of 2026, head coach Jenny Hansen announced on Monday.

Daelin Diaz-Luong (Cornelius, N.C.) is set to join Minnesota for the 2026-27 season. She will be in Dinkytown at the end of August to begin school and train with this team this fall.

"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Daelin Diaz-Long to the Gopher family. While her recruitment came together in a whirlwind, it quickly became clear that she is an incredible fit for our program and everything we value," said head coach Jenny Hansen.

A native of Cornelius, N.C., Daelin Diaz-Loung comes to Minnesota after originally committing to Penn State out of high school. Her plans were altered after a coaching staff change and she committed to Minnesota in early August.

"I chose Minnesota because everything about the school aligned with who I am and who I want to be as a student, an athlete, and a person," said Diaz-Loung. "The culture at Minnesota is so inspiring, and I felt like I was surrounded by the best role models that would push me to better myself inside and outside of the gym. Minnesota also has all of the resources I need for my studies and career goals. The support that student-athletes receive is top tier, and I cannot wait to pursue my dreams here at Minnesota!"

Diaz-Luong competed at Sonshine Gymnastics under coaches Milan and Heidi Stanovich during her club career. She was a four-time Development Program National Championships qualifier and a two-time top six finisher in the All-Around at DP Nationals. She also was a two-time top three finisher on Bars.

Her honors include making the 2025 Region Eight All Star Team and being a two-time Level 10 Regional Bars Champion. Diaz-Luong earned two Regional Beam Championships and was a three-time Level 10 Regional All-Around Champion. Her high scores are 38.675 on All-Around, 9.825 on Vault and 9.850 on Bars.

"Daelin is an outstanding student, a gifted athlete, and someone who has a genuine passion for the sport of gymnastics," said coach Hansen. "Her determination to continue growing and reaching her full potential makes her an exciting addition to our team. We can't wait to see the impact she'll have on our program, both in the gym and in our culture, and we're excited to help her achieve her goals as a Golden Gopher."

The daughter of Kelly and Daniel Diaz-Luong, Daelin has a younger brother, Landen, and a younger sister, Sabrina. Her mother was a diver and her father did gymnastics at the University of Michigan. She graduated high school with a 4.382 GPA and was the class Salutatorian. She plans to study psychology at the 'U'.

"College is a time where you really get to learn about yourself, so I am really looking to keep improving in the sport I love, learn more academically, and build relationships with more people. My goals are to keep improving in my athletics, my studies and personal life, and have fun while doing it. My hope for the team is that we can continue fostering an uplifting and motivating environment while we encourage each other to reach our goals and keep climbing as a team," she said.
