NABWE LOOKING TO GO BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK
Redshirt junior Anthonett Nabwe aims to continue her conference dominance in the weight throw with a third straight event title. Nabwe won the event in 2024 as a redshirt freshman, the first freshman to win the event since 2011. With her second consecutive victory in 2025 Nabwe became just the fifth back-to-back conference champion in the weight throw since 1999. In 2026 Nabwe will be looking to join Alicia Rue (2008, 2009, 2010) and Liz Roehrig (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) as Gophers to win three straight, or more, indoor conference titles. In conference history there have been 25 instances of women winning three straight, or more, indoor conference titles with none coming in the weight throw event.
Nabwe captured her first Big Ten title in 2024 with an NCAA freshman record in the weight throw with her mark of 23.36m (76-7 3/4). In 2025 Nabwe's winning throw of 24.22m (79-5 1/2) came on her sixth and final attempt of the competition and sits as the No. 2 all-time throw in conference championships history only behind 2018 NCAA Champion, and former Gopher, Kaitlyn Long's 24.37m (79-11 1/2). Heading into Friday's weight throw competition Nabwe holds a lifetime best of 24.67m (80-11 1/4), which is an all-time Big Ten record and sits at No. 6 all-time in NCAA history.
