FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
1. Meeting for the 96th season in a row (every year since 1931), Minnesota (4-2, 2-1 B1G) hosts No. 15/14 Iowa (5-1, 2-1) in its annual Homecoming Game. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. on FS1 and the Gopher Radio Network.
2. Saturday marks the 120th all-time matchup between Minnesota and Iowa, and it's also the 92nd battle for Floyd of Rosedale, a 15.5-inch high, 21-inch long bronze statue of a prized hog (a full history of which can be found on Page 63). First played for in 1935, the all-time series record for Floyd could not be much closer as the Hawkeyes hold a slight lead at 46-43-2. Minnesota is looking to win the prized pig in Minneapolis for the first time since 2014. A win would also mark the first time since Oct. of 1978 that the Gophers had possession of Floyd of Rosedale, the Little Brown Jug and Paul Bunyan's Axe at the same time.
3. All-time, Minnesota is 67-40-3 in its Homecoming Games, including three straight wins. The Golden Gophers are 10-4 against Iowa on Homecoming, its most wins against one team in Homecoming games. The 14 Homecoming matchups with the Hawkeyes are the second most for Minnesota behind Northwestern, against whom the Gophers sport a 9-8-2 record. Minnesota will be hosting Iowa for Homecoming for the first time since 2018, and it's looking for its first Homecoming win over the Hawkeyes since 1974. A full list of games can be found on Page 15 of the notes.
4. Drake Lindsey has continued his stellar play into his junior season. Through six games, he's 127-of-196 for 1,335 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions for a rating of 132.1. Lindsey ranks third in the Big Ten and 20th nationally with 21.17 completions per game. He's also eighth in the conference in completion percentage (.648). In single-season school annals, Lindsey is on pace to have the fourth best completion percentage, seventh-most passing yards per game (222.5) and eighth-best interception percentage (.0255). At Washington on Sept. 26, Lindsey was 21-of-29 passing for 204 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. In the first half alone, he was 15-of-16 for 125 yards and three touchdowns. It was Lindsey's fourth career game with three or more TD passes, including his second straight. He had three touchdown throws the prior week against Akron, marking the first time he's had multiple touchdown passes in consecutive games. And he was the first Gopher to have 3+ touchdown throws in back-to-back games since 2023. More on Lindsey can be found on Pages 5-6 of the notes.
5. The 2026 campaign is the 10th for P.J. Fleck at Minnesota. He is the tied for the fourth-longest tenured coach in program history, is the second-longest active tenured coach in the Big Ten and the 11th-longest tenured head coach overall in the FBS. Fleck's Minnesota record stands at 70-46, putting him fourth in program history in overall wins. He's also fourth in Big Ten wins (41) and fifth in games coached (116). Fleck's overall win percentage of .603 is third best among Minnesota coaches with more than 40 games under their helm behind only Henry L. Williams (.786, 1900-21) and Bernie Bierman (.716, 1932-41, '45-50). In his 14th season overall as a college head coach, Fleck is 100-68 (.595), making him one of 20 active head coaches to reach 100 wins at the FBS level.
