Gophers Sweep DeKalb Doubleheader, Improve to 4-0

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis team swept a doubleheader in DeKalb, Ill., on Saturday, defeating Western Michigan 7-0 and Northern Illinois 6-1. The Gophers improved to 4-0 in the spring season.
Minnesota finished the day 9-1 in singles and 4-2 in doubles.
Minnesota vs. Western Michigan
Minnesota claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches. The Gophers struck first at the No. 1 spot, where Sofia Pinto and Jeselle Ante posted a 6-3 victory over Marielou Baudouin and Lola Glantz. The Huskies responded at No. 3 doubles as Sienna Osborne and Julia Frazier defeated Aiva Schmitz and Nora Knezevic, 6-4. Yinong Ma and Anlin Xie clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Frida Weijerman and Audrey Smitek.
Minnesota swept all six singles matches to defeat the Huskies 7-0. Jeselle Ante opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Frida Weijerman at No. 2. Sofia Pinto followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Audrey Smitek at No. 3. Aiva Schmitz clinched the overall win with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Lola Glantz at No. 1. Mia Liepert added a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 win over Sienna Osborne at No. 4. Yinong Ma and Anlin Xie defeated Isabella Righi and Lucia Yecora 6-4 at No. 2, while Mia Liepert and Nora Knezevic topped Theodora Kousiou and Jenna Horne 6-4 at No. 3 to secure the point.
