Minnesota will face Milwaukee at ELR under the lights on Friday
MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gophers return home this Friday as the Milwaukee Panthers come to town. Minnesota kicks off at 7 p.m. CT on Friday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
Minnesota (4-1-1, 0-0-0 B1G) vs. Milwaukee (1-4-1, 0-0-0 Horizon League)
Date: Sept. 5, 2025
Time: 7 p.m. CT
Location: Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium
Scouting Milwaukee
With a 1-4-1 start to the 2025 season, the Panthers have faced three top-25 teams on the road: No. 23 Wisconsin, No. 20 Michigan State and defending NCAA College Cup champion No. 22 North Carolina. All three teams earned berths in last season's NCAA Tournament.
Milwaukee's lone win came in its home opener, a 4-0 victory over Northern Iowa. The Panthers were picked No. 1 in the Horizon League preseason poll.
The team is led by Mallory McGuire and Zoey Pagels, who have two goals each. Pagels was named Horizon League Player of the Week on Aug. 18 after scoring twice in the win over Northern Iowa, including the game-winner in the 19th minute. McGuire scored in back-to-back matches against Northwestern and at No. 22 North Carolina.
Last Time Out
Last season, Minnesota defeated Milwaukee 3-2 at Engelmann Stadium, marking its first win over the Panthers since 2009. Khyah Harper scored all three of the Gophers' goals for her third hat trick of the season.
Milwaukee's Lainey Higgins and Senya Meurer each scored to tie the match twice, but Harper's goal in the 80th minute proved to be the game-winner. Paige Kalal, Sophia Boman, Caroline Birdsell and Evelyn Calhoon each recorded an assist.
B1G Players of the Week
Freya Jupp and Kate Childers received Big Ten weekly honors for the first time in their careers on Tuesday. Jupp was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Childers earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Jupp scored her first goal as a Gopher in Thursday's match against Marquette. She followed with a standout performance Monday against Brown, netting both of Minnesota's goals in a 2-0 win. Jupp recorded all three of the Gophers' shots on goal, converting two as Minnesota secured its fourth straight victory.
Childers, a graduate of Grand Blanc High School, scored the game-winning goal in Minnesota's 4-3 win over Marquette. The goal was her second career game-winner and third career goal overall. The junior defender has played every minute of the season so far, totaling 450 minutes across five matches.
Gophers by the Numbers
9 - Goalkeeper Sarah Martin matched her career high with nine saves against BYU to open the season. Despite the Gophers falling in their home opener to the now No. 11 Cougars, Martin has recorded three shutouts. She made eight saves on the road at Brown, playing a key role in Minnesota's 2-0 victory.
8 - Paige Kalal leads the Maroon and Gold with eight points this season. She scored a brace against St. Thomas, added a goal against Marquette, and has tallied two assists.
6 - Freya Jupp has totaled six points through five games. She scored once against Marquette and twice on the road at Brown.
5 - Five freshmen have made their Minnesota debuts: Sawyer Danielson, Tenley Senden, Mya Nugent, Tyra Chu and Emily Buescher.
4 - The Gophers are on a four-game winning streak and will look to extend it to five on Friday.
3 - Redshirt freshman Davy Mokelke has scored in three straight games for Minnesota, one goal each against St. Thomas, Northern Illinois and Marquette. Mokelke also registered one shot in Sunday's match against Brown.
