‘U’ Ties for Third at Lady Paladin Invitational

Mesones leads Gophers with fourth place finish
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team finished play at the Lady Paladin Invitational Sunday. The 'U' moved up the leaderboard three spots to take home a third place finish. Minnesota posted a final round score of 288 (E) and a 54-hole score of 866 (+2) to tie with host Furman.
"You always want to move up the leaderboard on the last day and we were able to do that," said head coach Matt Higgins. "We'll have a great week of practice and the team can't wait to get back out and compete at Medinah."
Junior Mariana Mesones took home solo fourth place after carding a final round 71 (-1), her third of three under par rounds at the event. Mesones closed the competition with a total score of 210 (-6).
"I am really happy for Mariana," said Higgins. "This course fit her so well and she was right in it up until the final hole."
Alabama took home the team win with a final score of 846 (-18).
Notable:
Senior Isabella McCauley shot a 71 (+1) to finish the competition tied for 24th. McCauley grabbed four birdies to move her up the leaderboard nine spots in the final round.
Olivia Deakins closed out the event with a round three score of 79 (+7). The senior tied for 34th place. Sophomore Reese McCauley tallied a 74 (+2) to end the event tied for 34th.
Senior Madison Le jumped up the leaderboard 18 spots after improving four strokes in between rounds. She pencilled a 72 (E) to tie for 52nd place.
Freshman Lauryn Finley (IND) wrapped up her Gopher debut tied for 41st with a round three 78 (+6) to close her time in Greenville.

The team will be back in action Monday, Oct. 6 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill., for the Illini Invite.
