Childers' game-winning-goal came with four minutes left in the match

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Kate Childers scored in the 86th minute to lift Minnesota to a 4-3 win over Marquette on Thursday afternoon in front of 405 fans at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

The Golden Gophers (3-1-0, 0-0-0 B1G) picked up the nonconference win over the Golden Eagles (3-2-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) behind a strong offensive showing led by Paige Kalal, who finished with three points on a goal and an assist.

Minnesota also got goals from Freya Jupp, Davy Mokelke and Childers, while Katie Krohn tallied two assists and Mariah Nguyen added another. The Gophers held an edge in shots, 14-13.

Kalal opened the scoring in the ninth minute after receiving a pass from Krohn on the right sideline. She dribbled in and finished to give Minnesota an early 1-0 lead.

Marquette responded just over a minute later, with Clare Shea converting a corner kick with assists from Molly Keiper and Megan Murray.

Jupp put the Gophers back on top in the 15th minute, finishing off a sequence set up by Krohn and Nguyen.

Keiper tied it again for the Golden Eagles in the 25th minute, but Minnesota regained the lead before halftime. Mokelke scored her third goal of the season in the 32nd minute to put the Gophers ahead 3-2.

After the break, Minnesota held the lead until the 80th minute, when Marquette found the equalizer once more from Jocelyn Leigh.

With four minutes remaining, Childers netted the game-winner, the second of her career, off a corner kick delivered by Kalal.

Minnesota returns to action Monday at 11 a.m. Central time, visiting Brown on the road. The match will stream live on ESPN+.
