Gymnastics Announces 2025 Team Awards

The team held its annual banquet on Saturday, April 26

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota gymnastics program held its annual end-of-year banquet on Saturday, during which they celebrated the 2025 season and handed out postseason awards.

As a team, Minnesota posted a 17-7 (8-1 Big Ten) record in 2025. Minnesota finished second in the Big Ten regular season standings and took third at the Big Ten Championships. Hansen was named North Central Region Coach of the Year after another outstanding season in charge.

The team made the NCAA Regional Finals for the fourth time in the last five seasons (one of just two Big Ten teams to do so) and had an individual reach nationals for the second consecutive year.

2025 Season Accomplishments:
  • The team finished with the best conference record since the 2020 season (8-1).
  • Second place conference finish is tied for the second-best ever in the Jenny Hansen era.
  • 29th consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance as a team.
  • One of just three Big Ten teams to make four of the last five regional finals.
  • Second straight year having an individual qualify for nationals.
  • Big Ten Championships score of 197.425 was the third highest Minnesota score in the history of the Big Ten Championships.
  • Four Golden Gophers earned All-Big Ten honors, including Mya Hooten making her five all-league team in five seasons. Jordyn Lyden, Sarah Moraw and Ava Stewart were named Second Team All-Big Ten while Stewart became the first freshman since 2021 to make the B1G All-Freshman Team.
  • Mya Hooten made nationals for the fourth time in her career, including her second straight year as an individual. Hooten won floor event titles in 11 of 15 meets, going 9.900-or-better 10 times.
  • Mya was named First Team All-Big Ten, WCGA Second Team All-America, NCAA Championships Second Team All-America and Academic All-Big Ten.
  • Eighth straight season with a WCGA Regular Season All-American.
  • Third time in the last five seasons with an NCAA Championships All-American.
  • Seventh straight year with four-or-more All-B1G selections.
  • Eighth straight year with 10+ Academic All-Big Ten honorees.
Minnesota's banquet was held at Huntington Bank Stadium and multiple awards were passed out as the Gophers celebrated another successful season.

The coaching staff handed out six awards at the banquet:

Most Valuable Performer: Lauren Pearl and Mya Hooten

Most Improved: Jordyn Lyden and Megan Steensland

Freshman of the Year: Ava Stewart

Most Valuable Teammate(s): Sarah Moraw and Jenna Olshefshi

Mariam Award: Emily Koch and Marissa Jencks

-This award is named after Mariam Pourshoushtari, a former Gopher gymnast who survived meningitis. Her perseverance is a testament to what it means to dedicate all of your personal resources and willpower to achieve something. This honor is given to the gymnasts who the coaches believe has done everything they can to be their very best.

Visionary Leadership Award: Ella Sirjord

-The past few years have showcased some incredible out-of-the-gym talents from members of the program. Starting with Mary Korlin-Downs and continuing with Sirjord, the vibrant brand of the team has come to life with extraordinary vision, compelling content and dynamic storytelling. Through various forms of content, Sirjord has been a key contributor to the program's creative content. It's her third straight year winning the award.
