Hooten to Cap Historic Career at NCAA Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas --  Gophers fifth-year senior Mya Hooten is getting set to compete for a national championship on floor at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships this week at Dickies Arena. She'll compete as an individual with the No. 7 Missouri Tigers, who will go on floor during their first rotation. The meet will begin at 3:30 p.m. CT Thursday, April 17 and ESPN2 will provide television coverage.

In session I with Missouri it will be top-ranked Oklahoma, No. 3 Florida, and No. 8 Alabama. Session II at 8 p.m. on Thursday features No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Utah, No. 5 Michigan State and No. 6 UCLA.

The top-two teams from each semifinal will advance to the NCAA Championship final on Saturday, Apr. 19. The competition for the NCAA title will begin at 3 p.m. on ABC.

TELEVISION AND LIVE SCORING INFO
  • The two semifinal competitions on Thursday will be aired on ESPN2, while Saturday's NCAA final will be televised on ABC. Along with the main broadcast for the NCAA Championships, ESPN will also provide individual apparatus streams on ESPN+ for both the semifinals and championship. Sam Peszek and Bridget Sloan will commentate the vault and bars streams, with Kennedy Baker and Anastasia Webb covering bars and floor.

HOOTEN BY THE NUMBERS
  • Mya Hooten is a 12-time All-American (8-time WCGA, 4-Time NCAA Championships), six-time Big Ten Champion (three floor, two vault, one bars), five-time All-Big Ten selection (4-time first team), four-time Big Ten All-Championships Team honoree, four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, two-time Academic All-American and an NCAA Regional Champion. She's also tallied nine perfect 10's on floor.
  • In her career, she's participated in 197 total routines (65 bars, 64 vault, 62 floor, five beam). She's been 9.900-or-better on 97 of those routines (49.2 %). Hooten has gone 9.900-or-better on 29 of 64 vaults (45.3%) and 53 of 62 floor routines (85.4%).
MINNESOTA'S INDIVIDUAL HISTORY AT THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • Mya Hooten will be competing at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships for the fourth time in her career in 2025 and second time as an individual. She earned NCAA Championships All-America honors on both floor (first team in 2021, 2022) and vault (second team in 2021, 2022) in both seasons. She or Minnesota did not qualify for nationals in 2023. In 2024, she went 9.875 as an individual on vault, finishing tied for 17th.
  • Hooten scored a 9.950 on the floor and a 9.900 on vault in 2022 at nationals. In 2021, she went 9.950 on floor and 9.875 on vault.
  • Before Hooten, the last Gopher to qualify as an individual was Lexy Ramler in 2019. She earned NCAA First Team All-America honors on vault, bars, beam and all-around. She was the second Gopher ever to earn four All-America honors in a single year at nationals, but the first ever to be a four-time first team selection. In 2022, she was a three-time First Team All-American in the all-around, bars and beam.
  • Lindsay Mable earned four individual All-America honors in 2016, including three first team accolades (all-around, bars and floor). She was a second team honoree on the balance beam.
  • Ramler (12) and Mable (8) hold the most NCAA All-America honors in program history. Hooten (4) currently ranks fourth behind Ona Loper (5, 2018-22).
  • The only national champion in Gophers history was Marie Roethlisberger, who took home the uneven bars title in 1990 (9.875). Roethlisberger was a four-time NCAA First Team All-American from 1987-90. Hooten can pass her four All-America nods with a great score on vault this weekend.

2025 SEASON RECAP
  • The No. 15 Minnesota gymnastics team finished their season with a 17-7 (8-1 B1G) record. The Gophers hold a season-high score of 197.425, an NQS of 394.035 and an average of 196.825. Of Minnesota's 17 wins, seven have come against teams that were ranked in the Road to Nationals top-25.
  • The Gophers rank 12th on vault, 16th on bars, 16th on beam and 11th on floor. Vault high score is 49.400, bars is 49.425, beam 49.525 and floor 49.550.
  • The 'U' holds wins over CMU, UNH, Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State, Washington, Nebraska, Illinois, ISU, Maryland, Michigan (2x), LIU, Centenary, Southern Utah and Boise State. Its only losses have come to Michigan St. and UCLA.
  • Individually, Mya Hooten ranked No. 21 on vault and 14th on floor (WCGA Second Team All-America) nationally this season. Jordan Lyden ranked 20th nationally on the uneven bars. Ava Stewart ranks 24th on vault.
  • Hooten, who was named an AAI Nominee for the second consecutive year, earned her fourth First Team All-Big Ten honor and fifth overall. Jordan Lyden, Sarah Moraw and Ava Stewart were all named to the second team, while Stewart made the All-Freshman Team too. It was all their first All-B1G honor.
  • The 'U' took home 47 event titles in 12 meets, and eight different individuals won at least one. Mya Hooten led the team with 16 while Jordan Lyden had 12 and Ava Stewart held six.
  • Minnesota earned Big Ten Weekly awards four times this season. Mya Hooten has earned Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week twice in 2025, while Teryn Crump and Ava Stewart have each won Freshman of the Week.
  • The Gophers took third (197.425) at the Big Ten Championships, posting a season-high score. They tallied their best beam performance of the season there at 49.525, a figure that ties for the eighth-best beam score in program history.
  • With its second place finish at the regional semifinals, the Gophers advanced to their fourth NCAA Regional Finals in the last five seasons. They were one of three Big Ten teams to do so this year, joining MSU and UCLA.
  • Minnesota took fourth at the Regional Finals with Utah and UCLA advancing to nationals. Denver placed third. Mya Hooten advanced to nationals as an individual with her 9.875 on the floor.
