Minnesota Drops Hard Fought Game Against Oregon

4/12/2025 3:33:00 PM | Softball

MINNEAPOLIS, MN --The Minnesota Golden Gophers (14-25, 3-12 B1G) took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 5-4 to the #4 Oregon Ducks (35-4, 11-1 B1G) Saturday.

Junior Syndey Schwartz (5-13) started and took the loss in the circle for Minnesota.

In the batter's box, the Gophers were led by Senior Taylor Krapf, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Senior Nani Valencia compiled a standout performance as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Breezy Burnett also contributed for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Minnesota plated two runs when Krapf left the yard with Senior Margaret Tobias aboard.

The Maroon and Gold lost the lead they built in the third, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 5-2. Minnesota plated two runs off of Oregon pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Valencia, which tightened the Ducks lead to 5-4. The Gophers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
