'U' Takes Third at 2025 Big Ten Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15 Minnesota gymnastics team took third place at the 2025 Big Ten Championships with a score of 197.425.
"It really feels like we're getting better and we showed that in the meet tonight," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "I was especially proud of how we finished the meet on beam, we just attacked it. We wanted to leave here as a better team than we walked in as, and I definitely think we accomplished that."
No. 5 UCLA (198.450) placed first while No. 9 Michigan State (198.150) was second and No. 17 Michigan (197.325) placed fourth.
Michigan State's Olivia Zsarmani won the Big Ten vault championship with an excellent 9.950 score. Nebraska's Emma Spence took home the conference uneven bars title with a 9.975 in an earlier session.
UCLA's Ciena Alipio and Michigan State's Gabrielle Stephen won the Big Ten balance beam title with perfect 10's. On the floor, Brooklyn Moors and Jordan Chiles from the Bruins finished the session with back-to-back perfect 10s on the floor to secure the conference crowns.
Jordyn Lyden tied for the bars event title in Session III with a score of 9.950 with Frida Esparza of UCLA. She was the only Gopher to make the Big Ten All-Championships Team.Â
"First of all I want to thank my lord and savior, Jesus Christ," Lyden said. "I just went out there and executed to the best of my ability. I'm glad my teammates have my back and trust me to go last. My goal is to get a perfect 10 on bars this year."
The Gophers earned 49.150 on vault, 49.325 on bars, 49.525 on beam and 49.425Â on floor. The beam score was a season-best and tied for the eighth-best beam score in program history. It was their second best beam performance in the last five seasons.

FLOOR
The 'U' got off to a hot start, posting a 49.425 floor score as a team. They ranked second behind only Michigan State (49.500) after one rotation. Emily Koch, Leah Gonsiorowski and Lauren Pearl all led the group with 9.900s. Mya Hooten had a rare misstep on her last pass and finished with a 9.875. Marissa Jencks and Sophie Swartzmiller each posted 9.850s.
VAULT
The Gophers earned a team score of 49.150 on vault. Mya Hooten and Ava Stewart led the group with 9.875s while Teryn Crump came next with a 9.825. Sarah Moraw (9.800) and Lauren Pearl (9.775) rounded out the group.
BARS
Minnesota responded to rotation two with a 49.150 on the uneven bars. The freshmen and Jordyn Lyden led the way, as Ava Stewart (9.900) and Teryn Crump (9.875) continued their strong evenings. Lyden anchored the group with a 9.950. Mya Hooten (9.825) and Marissa Jencks (9.775) completed the five scores. The Gophers stayed in fourth place after the third rotation.
BEAM
The Maroon and Gold saved their best performance of the day for balance beam, earning a season-high team score of 49.525. Ava Stewart and Sarah Moraw set career and season-bests with 9.925 scores. Emily Koch and Jordyn Lyden earned 9.900s while Lauren Pearl went 9.875 to round out the group.
