LAST TIME OUT
Minnesota posted 20 event victories at the University of Minnesota Classic on February 8, at the University Fieldhouse. Anthonett Nabwe catapulted herself to No. 2 in the NCAA in the women's weight throw (23.21m | 76-1 3/4) while teammate Hadley Streit (22.12m | 72-7) moved up to No. 13 nationally in the same event.
Nabwe has now pushed herself to the top spot in the Big Ten just 15 days until the conference indoor championships in Indianapolis. For Streit, her lifetime best toss of 22.12m (72-7) improved her previous best mark by three feet to push to the No. 5 spot in program history. With the throw Streit puts herself in serious contention to make the NCAA Indoor Championships, which take the top 16 for the weight throw after the indoor conference championships are contested. THRICE AS NICE! NABWE HONORED, AGAIN
For a Big Ten leading third time this season University of Minnesota women's track and field redshirt sophomore Anthonett Nabwe has been named the Big Ten's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Feb. 12. Nabwe is the only female student-athlete to have earned a weekly distinction from the conference three different times this indoor season.
The Jamestown, N.D., native is the only Big Ten thrower to be ranked inside the top eight in both the shot put and weight throw this season. She is also the only Big Ten thrower to eclipse 23 meters this season in the weight throw, and she has done it twice with both of those instances coming this past weekend. In the weight throw, Nabwe has been perfect this year with six consecutive event wins and has a streak of seven straight regular season wins in the event going back to last season.
