STARTING FIVE
• The Golden Gopher men's basketball team opens Big Ten play on Wednesday when the No. 22 Indiana Hoosiers come to town. Tip time is 6:01 p.m., on the Big Ten Network. Mike Grimm and Al Nolen will provide the radio call on KFAN 100.3 FM. Indiana leads the all-time series, 104-67, excluding vacated games.
• Wednesday's game features two new coaches making their Big Ten coaching debuts in Niko Medved and Indiana's Darian DeVries. Medved is making his Big Ten coaching debut after seven years at Colorado State, while DeVries was at West Virginia last season. Both coaches have ties to Drake, each having coached there previously.
• The last time Minnesota hosted Indiana in a Big Ten opening game dates back to Jan. 8, 1972. Minnesota won that game, 52-51, at Williams Arena. While Minnesota opened against Michigan State at home last season, Indiana hosted the Gophers for its Big Ten opener on Dec. 9, 2024, when the Hoosiers won, 82-67 in Bloomington, Ind. For the ninth-straight year, the Big Ten has scheduled two league games early in December before starting the full conference schedule in January. Minnesota won that opening season against Rutgers on Dec. 3, 2017, and is trying for its first opening win since then.
• Minnesota is looking to return to the win column after a loss to Santa Clara as it closed out the Acrisure Invite Friday in Palm Desert, Calif. Cade Tyson scored a game-high 29 points, Isaac Asuma had 13 points and five assists, and Langston Reynolds added 12 points. The Gophers were down two starters, as both forward Robert Vaihola and guard Chansey Willis Jr. were out with injuries.
Cade Tyson continues to shine, averaging 22.4 points, which tops the league and is ninth nationally. His 179 points this season rank first in the Big Ten and seventh nationally.

 ALL-TIME SERIES
• Minnesota and Indiana are meeting for the 172nd time in school history, excluding vacated games. Indiana holds a 104-67 advantage and has won the past nine meetings. The Gophers are looking for their first win over the Hoosiers since 2019, which also came at Williams Arena.
• In the sole meeting between the two teams last year, Indiana won 82-67 in Bloomington, Ind. The Golden Gophers had three in double-digit scoring, including Garcia that had a game-high 22 points. Mitchell Jr. and Patterson also produced 10 points in the loss.

ABOUT THE HOOSIERS
• Under first-year head coach Darian DeVries, the Hoosiers have opened the 2025-26 season with a 7-0 record and ranked No. 22 in the latest Associated Press poll. The Hoosiers opened the season with a win vs. Alabama A&M, a neutral-site win over Marquette (United Center, Chicago), and followed with home wins over Milwaukee, Incarnate Word, Lindenwood, Kansas State, and most recently, Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
• The Hoosiers have a well-balanced scoring attack with five averaging double digits. Darian's son, Tucker DeVries, leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.9 points. His 29 three-pointers in 59 attempts have him shooting 44.1 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks third in the league and first in three-pointers per game (3.71). Lamar Wilkerson follows with 16.7 ppg and 41 percent from three, while Tayton Conerway leads the team in assists (37) and steals (12), while ranking third in scoring (11.9 ppg). Reed Bailey averages 11.3 points and shoots a team-best 59.5% from the field, while Sam Alexis has a team-best 6.4 rebounds and averages 10.6 points.
• As a team, the Hoosiers are averaging 89.6 points, while allowing just 62.4, third-best in the B1G. They are shooting 50.4 percent and 37.8 percent from beyond the arc. They also averaged 39.3 rebounds per game. Indiana's assist/turnover ratio is second in the Big Ten at 2.15, while its 20.9 assists per game also ranks second in the Big Ten and sixth nationally.

ON THE DOCKET
• Following the Indiana game, the Gophers travel to No. 1 Purdue on Dec. 10. Game time is set for 6 p.m., and televised on the Big Ten Network. Mike Grimm and Al Nolen will provide the radio call on KFAN 100.3 FM.
