DULUTH, MINN. – The No. 3-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned a statement victory on Friday night, shutting out No. 4/5 Minnesota Duluth, 4-0, at AMSOIL Arena. The Gophers erupted for three goals in the second period and added one more in the third to secure their third shutout win of the 2025-26 season.
The teams skated through a scoreless opening frame, with the Gophers holding a 13–7 advantage in shots on goal. Madison Kaiser, Nelli Laitinen, and Sydney Morrow each recorded a pair of shots to pace the Gopher offense early.
The 'U' broke through just 47 seconds into the second period. From the high slot, Morrow fired a wrist shot through traffic that was redirected in front by Ava Lindsay, giving the Gophers a 1-0 lead.
Less than three minutes later, the Maroon and Gold doubled their advantage. Josefin Bouveng sent a crisp pass from the left circle to Kaiser, who collected the puck in the low slot and buried it past the UMD goaltender for a 2-0 lead.
The Gophers kept rolling midway through the period as Lindsay struck again. Morrow intercepted a pass along the half wall and threaded a cross-ice feed to Lindsay, who one-timed home her second of the game to extend the lead to 3-0 at 12:33 of the second.
Minnesota capped the scoring late in the third period on the power play. Jamie Nelson carried the puck from the right dot into the high slot and snapped a shot under the goaltender's glove for her second goal of the season, sealing the 4-0 win.
Hannah Clark was outstanding in net, turning aside all 24 Bulldog shots to earn her third shutout of the year.
With the victory, Minnesota improves to 8-1-0 (4-1-0 WCHA), while Minnesota Duluth falls to 6-3-0 (2-3-0 WCHA).
