Gophers Complete Series Sweep of Bulldogs

10/25/2025 5:39:00 PM | Women's Hockey

DULUTH, MINN. – The No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team completed a series sweep of No. 4/5 Minnesota Duluth with a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena. Senior forward Abbey Murphy recorded her fifth multi-goal game of the season, including the game-winning tally midway through the third period. With her performance, Murphy moved into sole possession of second place on Minnesota's all-time goals list, passing Gopher legend Hannah Brandt.

For the second straight game, the Gophers and Bulldogs skated to a scoreless opening period. Shots were even at 10-10 through 20 minutes, with Josefin Bouveng and Murphy each registering a pair.

The Bulldogs struck first 7:55 into the second period on a wraparound goal by Caitlin Kraemer to take a 1-0 lead.

Minnesota responded just over three minutes later when Josefin Bouveng buried a one-timer from the high slot off a feed from Jamie Nelson and Sydney Morrow, tying the game at one.

The Gophers grabbed their first lead of the afternoon at 15:04 of the second frame. Murphy collected a pass from Gracie Graham at center ice, deked through a defender, and finished a backhand shot far side to make it 2-1.

Murphy struck again midway through the third period, capitalizing on a two-on-one rush. The senior forward fired a wrist shot high to the far post to extend Minnesota's lead to 3-1 with 10:21 remaining in regulation.

The Bulldogs pulled within one on a power-play goal with the goaltender pulled at 16:04 of the third, but the Gophers held strong down the stretch to secure the 3-2 victory and the weekend sweep.

With the win, Minnesota improves to 9-1-0 overall (5-1-0 WCHA), while Minnesota Duluth drops to 6-4-0 (2-4-0 WCHA) on the season.

Quotable
"A great win overall, it's a tough place to play," said Head Coach Brad Frost. "I'm really proud of our team for finding a way there, really bearing down in the third to keep that one goal lead, and ultimately win the game."

Frost on Murphy's Milestone
"It's a lot of goals," Head coach Brad Frost said. "She's one of, if not the, best goal scorers we've ever had here at the University of Minnesota. For her to do it how she's done it has been really impressive. This year I've seen her game take off and better than it ever has been. We're just really proud of her and all the energy she brings to our team. The goals are always something pretty special."
