Minnesota Impresses in Indoor Season Opener

The Gophers posted a pair of top 10 program performances on Friday.
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Golden Gophers began their 2024 indoor track and field campaign at the University Fieldhouse in Minneapolis, posting two program top 10 marks along with 19 victories between attached and unattached student-athletes on Friday.
Minnesota's two program top 10 performances included Kennedy Martinson in the 60m hurdles (8.64) and Hadley Streit in the women's weight throw (19.99m | 65-7). For Martinson, her time in the women's pentathlon 60m hurdles puts her ninth all-time at Minnesota. Streit's mark pushes her into the No. 10 spot in school history.
Of the Maroon and Gold's 19 victories on Friday, Anthonett Nabwe's stood out in the women's weight throw. The reigning Big Ten weight throw champion tossed a season-opening mark of 22.45m (73-8), which goes down as a meet record at the M City Classic.
Minnesota's men had a number of impressive performances on Friday as unattached competitors. Zion Campbell made his presence known in the 60m, posting a time of 6.63 seconds in his home debut to secure the victory. Campbell's time of 6.63 goes down as a lifetime best for the first-year Gopher, and would have been the No. 29 time nationally a season ago.
Minnesota's schedule will not resume until January 10, at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. The Maroon and Gold will return home to host the Jack Johnson Classic on January 24-25 at the University Fieldhouse.
